Human beings and the rest of the natural world have always had a relationship that seemed at odds with each others instinctual goals. Commonalities and differences aside, the most inspiring thing about it is the potential for shared biological processes that can benefit both worlds. An accelerated development in the present world see’s bioengineering and cross-species cloning having an impact in people’s perceptions of what it means to be a human being. New questions have arisen that spark both enthusiastic hope for the evolution of mankind but also critical warnings centred around, among other things, our relationship with a spiritual, higher order or plan.
‘It’s Human Nature’ is a project speculating a world where human beings and the processes of the natural world have assimilated through the fashion of the time. Set in a far future where the world is in a cycle of climate change, human beings have become spiritually sensitive to the power and might of the natural world as a force to respect and, as is the case with our nomad, join with in order to bring about a new meaning of peace; coexistence.
The garment of the nomad is a visual interpretation of a recycling process similar to that of the processes of nature at the ground level. Waste material (in this case trash and rubbish from a former humanity) is converted into nutrients for the nomad to grow human “flowers” on his body. Through pollination with other lifeforms the flowers bring about seeds that, as spread around by the nomad, sow the future of rejuvenation and coexistence.
This project was developed together with Daim Yoon at CIID on the Body as a Platform course taught by Amanda Parkes and David Gauthier.
